15 Tourist Attractions in Miles City Montana

May 19, 2022 | More: Miles City Montana| Tourist Attractions

Visitors to Miles City Montana should not miss a chance to visit the famous Range Riders Museum. This western-themed museum was established in 1939 and is a must-visit destination for anyone with a love for the West. The museum is comprised of several buildings including a picturesque red log cabin. The museum is huge and you should set aside a couple of hours to see everything that it has to offer. Start your tour in the Wagon Depot, the largest building in the museum. Inside, you’ll find a wealth of antique tools and old farm tools from the past.

The town’s development began with the Northern Pacific Railroad, which paved the way for development in the area. By the early 20th century, cattle and buffalo hunting had established the agricultural base of the town. World War I brought an influx of cavalry, and the city boasted the largest remount station in the country. While agriculture remains an important economic asset for the city, it is only one part of its history. Miles City is also a thriving healthcare and commercial sector.

Shopping is another popular activity in Miles City. This town boasts many unique shops and restaurants, and is very friendly towards small businesses. The city’s main street is full of Victorian buildings designed by architect Bryon Vreeland. The buildings were constructed between 1907 and the late 1930s, and the city is known for its eclectic blend of old and new architecture. As a result, many of the downtown buildings are still functional and have a traditional ‘Old West’ vibe.

A great place to visit while visiting Miles City is the National Wildlife Refuge. This awe-inspiring wildlife sanctuary is a popular stopover for migratory birds. Thousands of waterfowl and shorebirds make this refuge a popular stopover on their way to the southern part of their journey. Mule and white-tailed deer can be seen on the premises. This is one of the best things to do in Miles City, Montana.

Miles City is also home to some excellent vineyards and wineries. Tongue River Vineyard produces over 2000 gallons of wine annually, and you can take a wine tasting tour there. The vineyard is located near the Tongue River and is surrounded by picturesque views. You can also take a stroll down Main Street, which was once lined with saloons, casinos, and boutiques. The town’s Main Street was once a bustling place for gambling, but now boasts an attractive downtown area full of boutiques, art galleries, and galleries.

The town’s military history is not completely forgotten. The area around the town was a hotspot for cattle drives during the late 19th century. Cowboys from all over the region brought their cattle to local railheads. From there, they were loaded onto trains and shipped across the country. Unfortunately, this flurry of activity led to war between the Bannock Indians and the settlers. The war lasted until 1878, when Paris II and his brother Camille were captured and hanged in Miles City.
