15 Tourist Attractions in Roswell New Mexico

June 22, 2022 | More: Roswell New Mexico| Tourist Attractions

There are numerous reasons to visit Roswell, New Mexico, and here we’ll list some of the best. The city is situated at the confluence of three rivers and was first settled by Native Americans. After a group of Missouri settlers abandoned the area in 1869, it was incorporated as a town. In World War II, Roswell served as a prison camp, and German prisoners were forced to build the town’s infrastructure.

Visitors to Roswell should visit the Anderson Museum of Contemporary Art, which displays works of contemporary artists. The museum was established in 1994 and displays works created by local artists. This collection is a source of inspiration for the community. It features over two thousand square feet of exhibition space. While you’re in Roswell, be sure to visit the museum during one of the special events that it holds. It’s well worth the visit, but we’d recommend spending an hour or two here.

If you’re a space nerd, you’ll love the Alien Zone Area 51. There are more than a dozen life-size alien dioramas on display. During your visit, you’ll have a chance to pose with dummy aliens or check out the creative dioramas and art on display. You’ll also find a gift shop in the visitor center. You’ll want to take the time to learn more about the UFO phenomenon and the area’s history.

Another reason to visit Roswell, New Mexico, is the Alien Zone. Known for its 1947 UFO crash, the town offers plenty of unique tourist attractions and museums. Visitors will find quirky museums and state parks, historic landmarks, and wildlife refuges, as well as lively commercial districts and vineyards. It’s a great place for a vacation. There are even museums and galleries where you can buy unique items inspired by the Roswell incident.

In addition to being free, visitors can visit the Spring River Zoo, which is located in the city. The zoo includes a youth fishing lake, antique carousel, miniature train, children’s petting zoo, and exhibits of native New Mexico flora and fauna. If you want to get closer to history, you can visit the New Mexico Military Institute, which also has a museum and a golf course. Tours are offered at the campus, and you can even take a helicopter ride.

Whether you are looking to explore the history of Roswell or explore the town’s eerie connection to aliens, it’s a great way to spend a day. The town is full of history and mystery, and the aforementioned 1947 Roswell UFO Incident is one of the most popular tourist attractions. It’s no surprise, considering the high temperature, that many attractions in Roswell, New Mexico are indoors.

If you want to learn more about the history and culture of the area, the Historic Society of Southeast New Mexico is worth a visit. The museum features a wide array of antiques and memorabilia. Visitors will also learn about the area’s history, culture, and heritage. You’ll find many locals wearing period clothing here. In addition to the museums, you’ll find the Bottomless Lakes State Park, which was New Mexico’s first state park.
