15 Tourist Attractions in Sacramento

July 11, 2022 | More: Sacramento| Tourist Attractions

Known as the state capital of California, Sacramento is a wonderful destination for a holiday or business trip. While its rich history is rooted in the Gold Rush, the city is also known for its vibrant street art scene and vibrant murals. There is an annual mural festival, called Wide Open Walls, that’s a must-attend event if you enjoy street art hunts. Another highlight of visiting Sacramento is the Governor’s Mansion, a historic landmark with 33 rooms and Victorian architecture.

While the city’s historic buildings and gardens are impressive, it is the museums that draw the crowds. The Crocker Art Museum, founded in 1885, is an excellent place to view a wide variety of Californian art, including works from the Gold Rush. The museum also features the largest international ceramics collection in the US. If you have time, you may also want to check out the California State Railroad Museum, which spans six buildings and is well worth a visit.

There is also a growing food scene in the city. Sacramento is home to many renowned eateries and restaurants. The Old City Cemetery, set out as a Victorian garden, has been buried some of California’s most famous residents. Tours of the graves are conducted by lanterns at night, and there are tours led by volunteers. It is run mainly by volunteers who adopt plots and take care of the gardens. If you want to learn about Sacramento’s history, it’s a must-see.

For the foodies, there are several popular neighborhoods to visit. In addition to downtown, the city has several popular neighborhoods like Sutter, Midtown, and Downtown. Local food tours will not only give you a taste of the different foods in Sacramento, but will also help you avoid tourist traps. Aside from this, you can even enjoy a live music concert or a cooking class. And if you’re craving authentic Chinese food, there are many places to eat.

Sacramento is a foodie’s paradise. A visit to the West Coast Brew Fest offers four hours of unlimited tasting for $35. There’s no shortage of great restaurants in Sacramento, but the Waterboy is one of the best known. The menu combines seasonal produce with simple, elegant flavors. You can try appetizer plates with cheese and desserts and even indulge in decadent desserts. If you’re a foodie, the city’s many Michelin-starred restaurants are a great option for a meal out.

The State Indian Museum is another highlight. Originally built during the Gold Rush era, the museum is now the official state history museum for the state. Its exhibits include California Missions, the California Hall of Fame, and the history of Japanese Americans during World War II. There’s even an Aerospace Museum that tells stories of the area’s history. You can watch a film while you’re here and learn more about the first people of the region.

Another attraction worth checking out is the Sacramento Museum of Art. This museum features a permanent collection of works by notable artists and is open daily, with free guided tours and educational workshops. The Sacramento Zoo has been a popular family destination since 1927. It spans 14.3 acres and houses 140 animals. Don’t miss the Giraffe Encounters, which cost $5. You can also take a guided tour of the museum’s buildings and learn about the glaciers that shaped the valley.
