15 Tourist Attractions in Sausalito California

June 27, 2022 | More: Sausalito California| Tourist Attractions

If you’re in the mood for a beach vacation, look no further than Sausalito California. This charming town is home to an expansive yacht harbor and boulevards adorned with bougainvillea. Located on the northwestern shore of San Francisco Bay, the town is protected from the harsh ocean weather by the Marin Headlands. The climate in Sausalito is generally mild, although fog can roll over the hills without notice and afternoon winds can funnel through the city’s central part, known as Hurricane Gulch.

There are several places to visit in Sausalito, including Fort Baker, which is located near the town. There are many interesting outdoor and indoor exhibits that educate visitors on the local environment. The museum is great for children and includes hands-on activities such as a maze and creative art projects. The museum also offers workshops and seaplane tours that give visitors a unique perspective on the area. In addition to these attractions, visitors can also check out the Marine Mammal Center, which has worked with elephant seals, dolphins, sea lions, whales, and other marine animals.

Houseboats have been a part of Sausalito’s waterfront since the 1880s. These boats served as recreational vessels during the warm months of the year and were pulled ashore for the winter. After the World War II, a free-spirited bohemian population moved to this area, and houseboats became a vibrant art colony. In addition to houseboats, the town has five residential marinas and over 400 floating homes. While houseboats can’t be toured by the public, houseboats are often adorned with whimsical exterior decor, potted plants, and artwork.

For travelers who would prefer to take a road trip from San Francisco to Sausalito, there are several options. The Golden Gate Bridge can be reached via ferry from the San Francisco area. A bike is allowed at the ferry dock, and there is a dock at Fisherman’s Wharf. Whether you prefer to take the ferry or drive yourself, there’s no shortage of things to do in Sausalito. From hiking to sailing, the town offers wonderful views and amazing food.

The food culture in Sausalito is alive and thriving. With a variety of restaurants showcasing local and seasonal fare, Sausalito has something for everyone. From fine Italian to sushi, from local seafood to Indian food, you’ll find the perfect place to enjoy the freshest ingredients. If you’re interested in trying new flavors, try Lappert’s Ice Cream, which is a Hawaiian staple.

A refined hotel in the town center is the Hotel Sausalito. It’s located near Vina del Mar park, and boasts 16 luxurious rooms. The hotel has been around since 1915, but still retains a charming French Riviera atmosphere. The only downside is that there is no parking at the hotel. Luckily, there’s a public parking garage right across the street that costs just $20 per day. The location is convenient and the rooms are well-appointed.
