15 Tourist Attractions in Virginia Beach

July 18, 2022 | More: Tourist Attractions| Virginia Beach

While you’re in Virginia Beach, you should definitely stop by Ferry Plantation House. It dates back to 1642, and was named after the ferry service that brought passengers from the Lynnhaven River and the county courthouse to other plantations on the water. A tour through the mansion’s halls can help you appreciate the history of the area. If you’re feeling brave, you can even experience the terrifying Nightmare Mansion Haunted House!

Another attraction in Virginia Beach is the Adventure River, which offers boat tours to tumbling waterfalls and hidden coves. There are also several charters that take visitors to whale watching spots. Stand-up paddleboarding is another popular activity, but it requires some practice to perfect the balance. Afterwards, you can relax on a board in the Great Neck area and enjoy a fresh-baked bagel. This local favorite opened in 2011.

Near the historic First Landing State Park, you can also visit the Cape Henry Lighthouse, which was authorized by George Washington. This 55-foot-tall structure was a vital beacon for ocean vessels during the Colonial period, as it was essential for the coastal trade between Virginia and Maryland. If you’re visiting the Lighthouse, make sure to bring along a photo ID, as there are no restrooms inside. While you’re there, you can also take in the view of the Atlantic Ocean from the First Landing State Park.

If you’re a kid at heart, you’ll find an incredible playground for children at Grommet Island Park. This beautiful park spans 15,000 square feet. It also offers ADA accessibility. You can play in the water, swim or canoe with the kids, or enjoy the scenic palm trees. Families will also love the classic rides at the park, as well as enjoy the fun traditions and quaint atmosphere. While you’re in Virginia Beach, you’ll have plenty to do during your vacation.

The city is filled with history, and the local museum and aquarium are two great ways to learn about its history. A trip to Virginia Beach would be incomplete without a trip to the Cape Henry Lighthouse, an important landmark on Chesapeake Bay. Its museum and nature parks are another great way to spend your vacation. And don’t forget to check out the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center. With so many things to do in Virginia Beach, you’re sure to find something you love!

If you enjoy art, Virginia Beach has plenty of museums. The Virginia Beach Museum of Art features rotating exhibits and hands-on exhibitions that will keep children entertained for hours. You’ll also find exhibits on race and identity in contemporary art, as well as history at First Landing State Park. If you’re a jazz lover, you’ll definitely enjoy FunkFest! The music festival also features live entertainment and concessions. You can enjoy jazz music on the beach in Virginia Beach, and you’ll be amazed by the historic buildings, churches, and art galleries.

One of the most memorable activities to do in Virginia Beach is whale watching. The naturalist-guided boat cruises take you deep into the realm of these gentle giants. During the trip, you can view humpback whales breaching the surface of the ocean. There’s even an onboard naturalist who can explain the meaning of the animal’s antics to you. The best time to visit during these whale sightings is between December and February. While you’re at it, be sure to attend nightly open-air concerts at Neptune’s Park.
