Frederick also boasts a winery, where guests can sample wines from around the world. For those who love a good wine, Frederick is a great place to visit. For those who would like to stay in the city, however, there are plenty of other attractions.
While visiting Frederick, don’t miss the Pacific War Museum. Two traditional museums focus on the history of Admiral Nimitz and the World War II battles in the Pacific. There’s also an outdoor Pacific Combat Zone, where re-enactments of these battles take place. In addition to the museum, the Pioneer Museum features a collection of German artifacts, as well as stories from early settlers of the area.
The charming town of Frederick is located in the Gillespie County wine region, near the city of Austin. It boasts a small-town feel, but has all the amenities of a bigger city. You can explore the many museums, bakeries, and other establishments along its Main Street. You can buy everything from western apparel to women’s fashion and jewelry to the latest in home decor. Of course, you can also indulge in some fine dining in Frederick.
Visitors to Frederick can sample German beer at the Altstadt Brewery, a top-rated American brewer that serves authentic German fare. While you’re there, try some of the German food and schnitzels at the Old German Bakery & Restaurant. Old German Bakery & Restaurant is a great place to grab a hearty breakfast, and is always a popular spot on the weekends. Just be sure to book reservations in advance to avoid long lines and disappointments.
Wine tasting is another great option in Frederick Texas. The area is home to over 50 wineries, and many of them are located just off U.S. Highway 290. Fredericksburg is home to Texas’ largest vineyard, Becker Vineyards. To learn more about these fantastic wines, visit the 290 Wine Highway. You’ll find dozens of award-winning wineries and tasting rooms along the way. If you’re visiting Frederick, you’ll be sure to take advantage of the free shuttle between wineries.
For an evening out, consider going to the Rockbox Theater. The theater is located in an old warehouse just off Main Street and has comfortable seating. Though originally focused on 50s and 60s live music, it has now expanded to feature bands and comedians. Be sure to plan ahead for a night out as it can get very busy on the weekends. And don’t miss a show at the Fredericksburg Theatre Company. They host several exciting live shows every month, so make sure you get tickets ahead of time.
Houston Branch members were active in the branch for over 50 years. The first edition was published June 15, 1971, followed by the second edition in August 1978. The third edition, released on March 23, 1993, added National Awards and Landmarks to the publication. The Houston Branch was also home to the Texas Section’s Fall meeting. Its president, James R. Sims, was elected as secretary for the year 1953-57. A variety of special events and awards were presented.
