The City of Kansas was incorporated on February 22, 1853. The original boundaries covered 0.98 square miles and the population was 2,500. The boundary lines extended from the middle of the Missouri River south to Ninth Street. Bluff Street and Charlotte Street ran north and south, while Charlotte Street was the western boundary.
