15 Typical Gifts from Lafayette Louisiana

May 5, 2022 | More: Lafayette Louisiana| Souvenirs

If you’re planning a family vacation to Lafayette Louisiana, you can visit a museum dedicated to French colonial life. You can explore the history of Louisiana while learning about its diverse wildlife, which includes alligators, turtles, and slithering snakes. Visitors can also learn about the tradition of crawfishing, which has been practiced in Lafayette for generations. The Acadian people who inhabited the area came to the US from Canada when they were expelled, and they settled in Louisiana.

While you’re in Lafayette, you can indulge in local cuisine and drink tabasco ice cream. The city also boasts a charming streetscape that is filled with unique shops and specialty services. Enjoy a delicious coffee or a freshly made sandwich at a nearby café, and pick up your favorite newspaper at a newsstand. If you’re in the mood for a night out, you can enjoy one of several bars and clubs in the city.

For unique gifts, you can visit one of the many specialty shops that specialize in Louisiana items. The Homegrown store is located on Settler’s Trace, and features gifts for babies, toddlers, sprouts, and even teenagers. Another great place to buy gifts is Pink Paisley, which is located in Parc Lafayette next to Southfin. Whether you’re looking for home decor or gifts for the whole family, you’re sure to find something for everyone in this Louisiana specialty store.

Since the 1860 census, the city has experienced rapid growth. The population of Lafayette reached forty thousand people. In 1960, the city reached seventy-five percent, and by the time of the last census, the city had surpassed a hundred thousand. Today, Lafayette has a population of more than fifteen thousand. The city continues to grow in size and diversity, and the next census is scheduled for 1840. While the city is home to a variety of religious groups, it is home to one of the largest non-Christian denominations in Louisiana, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The cultural attractions in Lafayette are numerous. You can find music and food festivals throughout the year. In the spring, enjoy the Festival International de Louisiane, a five-day heritage event, and in October, take in a three-day festival dedicated to Acadiens and Creole culture. For something a little different, you can even go kayaking on Lake Martin and enjoy the moonlit skies over the water. It’s sure to be a fun time!

While there are many museums to visit while in Lafayette, there are also many things to do that you can’t find anywhere else. The Children’s Museum of Acadiana is one of them. With its interactive exhibits, kids can learn a variety of topics about the world around them. This museum is great for families with young children, as it also features a sensory area and a makeshift TV station. For those with a little one, there are even classes and workshops that will help you engage in hands-on learning.

Vermilionville is another fun place to visit while in Lafayette. This living history museum is spread over 23 acres and features many interesting historical sites. The museum offers self-guided tours and a restaurant. There are costumed historians who will tell you all about life in 19th century Acadania. There are also live performances in the area, such as Cajun and Creole music. Afterward, you can enjoy a tasty meal and some live music.
