15 Typical Gifts from Monterey California

December 10, 2021 | More: Monterey California| Souvenirs

Located on the rugged central coast of California, Monterey is home to the world-famous Monterey Bay Aquarium, home to thousands of marine animals. Designed to appeal to a wide range of ages, the aquarium is a must-see attraction. Its interactive exhibits make it an ideal place to learn about and experience the natural wonders of the ocean. If you’re looking for a little more culture, Monterey is the perfect place for you.

Located along the Pacific Ocean, Monterey has a long history of settlers. In the early 1870s, Mexicans and Spanish settlers landed on the shores and built the custom house, which later became the state’s first state historic landmark. The Larkin House, which was the first two-story house in California, is a National Historic Landmark. And finally, the Monterey Museum of Art is the perfect way to learn about California art.

While visiting Monterey, you’ll want to take a drive along Highway One, the scenic coastal route. You’ll see cypress forests, artichoke fields, and rocky cliffs. Head west to Carmel, where you’ll find the famous 17-Mile Drive. In addition to clam chowder, the area is home to the world-famous Jazz Festival, which began in 1958 and features Dizzy Gillespie, Billie Holiday, and Louie Armstrong. The festival claims to be the longest jazz festival in the world.

Located 15 miles west of Monterey, the Colton Hall Museum is a free museum to explore. In 1846, Alta California was known as California. Walter Colton, a local businessman, was appointed Chief Magistrate of the Monterey district and commissioned to build the first public American building in the state. The museum has many items related to the city’s history. If you’re interested in the history of this area, you should visit Colton Hall.

The town is home to the acclaimed Dennis the Menace Playground, which was built in 1956. It features a giant ship, slides, and lots of climbing equipment. It is located on El Estero Lake and is surrounded by the Monterey County Youth Museum. Whether you’re looking to enjoy the outdoors or learn more about nature, the region offers something for everyone. It’s a perfect place for a family vacation.

If you’re looking for a good place to have your kids’ birthday, you’ll want to visit Monterey’s jail. The original building was built in 1854 and houses a large number of inmates. The jail’s windows were covered with iron plates, providing little sunlight to the inmates. Today, the prison is a modern, air-conditioned facility. A few locals who live in this town are proud to say that it is home to a world-renowned brew pub.

The Point Sur Lighthouse is another important landmark in the town. Located 361 feet above the water, the lighthouse is home to many endangered species, including the California sea otter, the silver-sided legless lizard, and the golden-backed turtle. If you’re looking for an exciting family vacation, make sure to check out the museums in the city. And don’t forget to make time for the ocean.
