Top 15 Places to Visit in Ferndale and the Avenue of the Giants California

March 21, 2022 | More: Places to Visit

Highway 101 parallels the 31-mile Avenue of the Giants, a dazzling display of giant redwood trees. This park is the most spectacular display of giant trees within the 500-mile redwood belt, and it’s free to visit and enjoy. The area is also home to Humboldt Redwoods State Park, the largest stand of old-growth redwoods in the world.

To get to the Avenue of the Giants, take Highway 101 to Scotia. From there, turn right onto Blue Slide Road, which turns into Grizzly Bluff Road. This scenic drive will lead you to the town of Ferndale. This charming town has great restaurants, shops, and historic architecture. The Russ-Williams Bank, located in Ferndale’s center, was built in 1883. It also included a millinary store, a haberdashery, and a newspaper.

While on vacation, check out the Drive-Thru Tree, located in the town of Myers Flat. This privately owned redwood has been carved into the shape of a man-made structure. Entrance to the front of the house is through the hollow trunk of the still-living tree. The rest of the house adjoins the rear of the tree in traditional style. The neighborhood is a great place to take a break from the hustle and bustle of a larger city.

If you are traveling by car, consider spending at least an hour or two on the Avenue of the Giants. The drive is two-lane paved, and the speed limit is 45 mph. There are several places to stop and enjoy a meal or a snack. It is recommended to set aside at least two hours for this road trip. And don’t forget to take plenty of time to stop and enjoy the scenery.

The Avenue of the Giants is the most beautiful road in the world and is a popular destination for travelers. The area is accessible all year round, and the only time it closes is during the winter when the Shrine Drive-Through Tree isn’t open to the public. However, the beauty of the Avenue of the Giants is breathtaking and worth a stop on any road trip in the northern part of California.

The Avenue of the Giants is a scenic, 31-mile road paralleling U.S. Route 101. It was originally built as a stagecoach route in the 1880s and is maintained by the state. The Avenue of the GIants is a national landmark and is a must-see destination for any vacationer to Northern California. There are also many other places to see in Ferndale and the Ave of the Gigants, which are popular among tourists.
