The City of Fort Davis, Texas is located in the state of Texas. The population of Fort Davis is approximately 1,201 as of the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Jeff Davies County. There are no official city boundaries. Residents are encouraged to check with local government officials to find out what their tax rates are. The community is home to several colleges, including the University of North Texas, Jeffkins Technical College, and South Plains Community College.

For foodies, the Fort Davis Drug Store features a full service restaurant and gift shop with a 1950s soda fountain. A trip to the Fort Davis Drug Store is a must for those who want to sample the famous gin. The store has six different rooms, including the classic ‘Dinos in the Desert’ room. The ‘Dinosaurs in the Park’ exhibit has 19 different species of rattlesnakes and a variety of tarantulas.

The Powell Visitor Center is open Monday through Saturday 9-5, and Sundays 12:30-5. The Center is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Day. During your visit to Fort Davis, take a trip on the scenic Loop Trail, which is 75 miles long and takes about two hours. The Powell Visitors Center is open year-round. There are also many hiking trails throughout the area. The Skyline Drive Trail is the longest of these and is open all year long.

For families, Fort Davis has a number of annual events. The annual Fourth of July Celebration, for instance, is a spectacular event featuring a giant parade, arts and crafts vendors, and a fantastic fireworks show. If you’re in town in December, don’t miss the Holiday Extravaganza, which features nightly caroling in the downtown square. If you love to celebrate Christmas, you’ll definitely find the perfect time to attend the Frontier Christmas Parade and the Downtown Square’s holiday festivities.

For breakfast in Fort Davis, head to the Stone Village Market. The café serves egg tacos and biscuit sandwiches, as well as fresh pastries. If you’re in town on a weekday, you can also opt to stop at the nearby towns of Marfa or Terlingua. You can also visit the Big Bend Roaster coffee company, which offers Nitro coffee. These two coffee shops are known for their fresh-ground coffee.

There are many things to do in Fort Davis. Among the most popular attractions is the McDonald Observatory, which is located in the city’s dark sky sanctuary. Its ceilings are so high, the lighting must be directed downwards to avoid light pollution. While the McDonald Observatory isn’t open to the public, it does feature a gift shop and an outdoor telescope park. Reservations are needed and tours of the museum are limited to 90 minutes.
