May 9, 2022 | More: Hampton and Newport News Virginia| Places to Visit

If you’re planning a vacation to the area, you’ll find several interesting things to do in Hampton and Newport News Virginia. The two cities are also home to the world-class Jefferson Lab, a particle physics laboratory and national research center. It has been operating in the Hampton Roads area for over 30 years and is home to hundreds of researchers who are responsible for some of the world’s most important discoveries. This world-class research facility attracts over 1,600 visitors from around the world each year, making it a major contributor to the local economy.

The Hampton History Museum is located at 120 Old-Hampton Lane and is open Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm. The museum is also open on Sunday from 1 to 5 pm. The museum’s exhibits feature artifacts from families and archeology digs that took place in Hampton. Many of the items are meticulously recreated in this museum. Throughout the town, you can learn more about the city’s past by visiting several historic sites.

After World War I, the U.S. Army designated Newport News as a Port of Embarkation. This meant that the region’s military would be able to control the entire Chesapeake Bay and protect the country. In order to control the region and control trade, the U.S. government built two stone forts. It was also home to the first government-sponsored planned community, Hilton Village, which opened on July 7, 1918.

Fort Wool is located on a man-made island in Hampton Roads. Fort Wool is a great place to learn about our nation’s history. While it’s difficult to visit this place, a 30-minute tour of Fort Wool will give you a great view of the Norfolk Naval Yard. Fort Wool was originally known as Fort Calhoun, but its name was changed by the Secretary of War in 1863. It also houses a museum dedicated to the life and times of the American Revolution.

The number of defendants held in the jails of Hampton and Newport News, Virginia has remained relatively consistent over the last several years. In FY2000, the Courts of Hampton and Newport News Virginia admitted around 16,600 people to jail awaiting trial. Of these, approximately 45% were bonded out before the pretrial investigation process began. The trend toward fewer pretrial placements could be attributed to changes in bail reform. The trend of the Hampton and Newport News jail population suggests that this trend will continue.

While the cities are thriving, military presence is still evident. Nearby Joint Base Langley-Eustis is home to four hundred people and four hundred military units. The military presence in these towns is significant, especially considering that many of the city’s residents are servicemen. There are many things to do in Hampton and Newport News Virginia. Several other military bases are located in the area, and the local community benefits from their proximity.
