There are many reasons to visit Wrangell, Alaska. The town was an early supply point during the three major gold rushes of the nineteenth century, including the Stikine Rush of 1861. Today, you can explore the town’s rich history in a museum that features over 3,000 historical photographs. The museum is located on Campbell Drive and hosts traveling exhibits. There is also a gold mine. To get started, plan a trip to Wrangell to see the famous gold rushes that once dominated the state.

While visiting Wrangell, be sure to bring your fishing pole. There are a number of fishing charters in the region. Charters run day trips and multi-day fishing adventures. You can fish for king salmon in late April or early May, when they begin to spawn. Other catchable species include red snapper, ling cod, sea bass, and Alaskan halibut. You can also catch salmon and halibut, which can weigh up to a hundred pounds.

While fishing in Wrangell can be very rewarding, you should also try a wildlife tour. Tour companies offer customized tours that are perfect for your interests. The Tlingit Community House, located on an island in the harbour, is a great place to visit. It is a recreation of the original Tlingit community house and can be reached via a footbridge from Shakes Street. It has original totems from the Tlingit tribe, so you’ll want to visit during an event. During these events, you can learn about the meaning of the items and enjoy a tour.

The Tongass National Forest dominates the area, covering 80% of the territory. The national forest is home to hundreds of animal species and is the largest national forest in the United States. Visiting the forest will help you learn about the history of the area. The forest is home to a number of indigenous groups and is one of the last places where black and brown bears co-exist. The forest is also home to the Tongass Wildlife Observatory, a museum for local wildlife enthusiasts.
