In 1779, the Overmountain Men led the overland settlers to the area, and James Robertson built a fort named after Francis Nash, a hero of the American Revolution. During the American Civil War, Nashville was a part of the Confederate state, and became the first Confederate state capital to be taken by Union troops. After the war, however, the city rebounded from its low population and began developing a manufacturing base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides historic buildings, Nashville is also home to some interesting landscapes. The Belle Meade Mansion was constructed in 1845 and has a Greek-Revival design. The antebellum plantation surrounding it remains visible today.
