It covers an area of 25,000 square feet and features interactive exhibits on Civil War history. Located in Pamplin Park, it is considered one of the top Civil War museums in the country. The museum is divided into four main areas, including the Eastern Front Visitor&#8217;s Center, Five Forks Battlefield, and Poplar Grove National Cemetery. The park hosts many events throughout the year, including Civil War era homes and a unique Civil War-era museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many African Americans served in the armed forces during the World War II, and they continued to push for social justice and voting rights. By the mid-century, nearly 40% of Petersburg&#8217;s population was black. The city&#8217;s majority was white, but it remained segregated. A large percentage of black citizens were excluded from public places, such as public bathrooms. Major black churches formed the moral center of the Civil Rights Movement in Petersburg, which gained momentum at the mid-century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Battle of Blanford in 1781 took place near Petersburg.
