This waterfront park was named for Chetzemoka, a S&#8217;Klallam leader. There are plenty of places to eat, as well as some historical buildings. But what makes Port Townsend so unique is that it offers an opportunity to get out in nature without having to leave the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The city&#8217;s main street is lined with Victorian homes and is surrounded by forests. You can take a walk through these historic homes on a self-guided walking tour. Nearby Fort Worden State Park features 430 acres of forest and two miles of beach. You can also explore the area&#8217;s 73 historic buildings. The city also hosts a decommissioned military fort called Fort Worden. While exploring the park, don&#8217;t forget to bring your car and park it in a designated parking lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The historic downtown of Port Townsend is the perfect place to start your day. There are plenty of attractions and shops to explore, and you can&#8217;t go wrong with the downtown farmers market. Aside from local fresh produce, this market also boasts coffee shops and hot food vendors. During the warmer months, live music often accompanies the market. If you&#8217;re traveling north, the Washington State Ferry departs daily from the downtown waterfront.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A visit to Port Townsend Washington is not complete without a tour of the Fort Worden Recreation Area. Visitors can take advantage of several trails in this area, and a lighthouse is the perfect spot for sunset photographs. The area also offers many educational institutions, including the Coast Artillery Museum, which provides insights into armed defenses in the area. And if you&#8217;d rather learn about marine science, the Port Townsend Marine Science Center is a great place to start your day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For an enjoyable hike, take a walk along the cicm@han trail. This historic trail, which was recently finished in 2008, features 18 historically significant sites. You&#8217;ll be surrounded by stunning scenery, and the cicm@han trail will give you a better understanding of the community&#8217;s history. During your visit to Port Townsend, you&#8217;ll also be able to experience the acclaimed Finistere restaurant. Better Living Through Coffee is an experience that you won&#8217;t forget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are many different places to stay in Port Townsend. There are campgrounds and hotels in downtown Port Townsend. Most are located near a beach and are accessible year-round. If you&#8217;re looking for something more unique, try the Fort Worden campground, which offers over 400 rooms and 80 campsites. You can even reserve a place at the Fort Worden campground. Check the Washington State Parks website for a full calendar of events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The odors from the paper mill in Port Townsend are troubling. Some call the smell of skunk cabbage or sauerkraut, while others say it resembles dead mice. However, local officials have been working to reduce the stink zone and reduce emissions at the paper mill. Despite these complaints, the Department of Ecology says its efforts are being praised.
