If you’re looking for a place to spend your vacation, consider Raton New Mexico. This town is a popular destination for both locals and visitors. This small town sits just west of Las Cruces. In 1860, the town of Willow Springs was named a government forage station. The army built corrals and storehouses to store supplies. In 1865, Richens Wootton built a 27-mile toll road over Raton Pass. Before this road was constructed, it would take five days to cross the pass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The population of Raton is approximately 150,000. Many people visit the town as a gateway to New Mexico. But many people miss its best-kept secrets. In 1879, dozens of train riders passed through Raton Pass. Railroad workers boarded at William Boggs’ home in Willow Springs. In 1880, railroad officials formed the New Mexico Townsite Company and purchased 320 acres from the Maxwell Land Grant Company. The townsite was laid out in an orderly fashion, and the town was named after the mountain pass, which is part of the Rocky Mountains. Its modern name, Raton, was given to the town after the post office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sugarite Canyon State Park is another popular destination in Raton, New Mexico. It is close to town, but still offers excellent hiking opportunities, great fishing, and fishing. Nearby Lake Maloya is an ideal place to rent a kayak. There are also several golf courses in the town. Further, the city has access to the largest NRA shooting range in the U.S., and the Maxwell National Wildlife Refuge is a great place to go hunting if you enjoy the sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While it may not be the most cosmopolitan place in the world, Raton, New Mexico is home to several arts organizations and venues. In fact, the town is known as the Arts and Cultural District in Northeastern New Mexico. Various venues such as the historic Shuler Theater and the Old Pass Gallery house the visual and performing arts. Another feature of the town’s arts scene is its historic First Street, which features Victorian buildings and galleries. The town also has a youth theatre and dance school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The town of Raton is located in Colfax County, in northeastern New Mexico. It is located near the state’s border with Colorado and is about 85 miles west of Colorado Springs. The name Raton comes from the Spanish word for mouse. In addition, the Raton Range lies north of the town. This 75-mile-long ridge extends eastward from the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. It is home to the Raton Basin, which is named after the range.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The city’s population is relatively spread out and is composed of a diverse mix of people. Nearly one-third of residents are under the age of 18, while 17.7% are between 25 and 44 years old. Approximately 33% of households are non-families. In addition to this, thirty-four percent of households are comprised of individuals.
