In that incident, American miners attacked their Chinese co-workers, forcing many of them to leave town. The Rock Springs Wyoming Historical Museum is dedicated to those who perished in the riot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The city’s rich cultural heritage is evident in its diverse population. As an immigrant town, Rock Springs is a diverse community of coal miners and immigrants from 56 different countries. One of the most infamous events in the history of Rock Springs is the Chinese Massacre, which took place on Sept. 2, 1885, and left at least 28 people dead and more than 150 wounded. As a result, the Chinese became the largest ethnic group working in the mines, and this led to a riot in which white miners killed and burned 75 Chinese homes.
