Just off Interstate 80, the city is 178 miles from the state&#8217;s capital, Jackson. The scenic drive from Jackson offers spectacular vistas and open pastures. As the center of energy and transportation in the region, Rock Springs has seen both energy booms and busts. The city has managed to rebuild from its once dirty industrial reputation. For example, its population has increased tenfold since the end of the energy boom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The city&#8217;s population increased by 23 percent since the last census. At the time of the census, the population was around 19,000, a level which may be sustainable for decades. By 2010, the population had reached 23,000, a 23 percent increase over the year 2000. Although the increase was not significant, it is notable that the population in Rock Springs continues to rise.
