In 1838, William Richardson received a land grant from Mexico and named the area Rancho del Sausalito, or “the little willow grove.” In 1848, the Marin Headlands became a thoroughfare for gold seekers. Gold seekers ravaged the area, and the land was overrun and robbed. In 1851, Richardson sold his 160 acres to Charles Botts, who planned to capitalize on the traffic passing through the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The historic Hotel Sausalito features harbor and park views from most rooms. The hotel’s hallways are decorated with reproductions of Monets and Matisses by local artist Kelleen Sullivan. The elegant rooms and suites are decorated with stained glass windows. The hotel also boasts a full-service spa. The city is located just over a half-hour’s drive from San Francisco, so you can easily take a day trip to the Napa and Sonoma Valleys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
