This area is home to just over 300 people, but it is a popular weekend getaway from Seattle. The area is home to several ski resorts and is a popular hiking destination, and visitors can enjoy the trails, lakes, and mountains throughout the year. You can also visit the pass&#8217;s attractions for a day trip from Seattle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to being home to the Mount Baker Snoqualmie National Forest, the area is also home to three campgrounds. The Pacific Crest Trail begins in this area. In addition to skiing and snowboarding, the Summit at Snoqualmie offers tubing. The road conditions may be variable, especially during the winter, so it&#8217;s important to check with your local Washington State DOT before traveling. During the winter months, snow is likely to cause some delays, so plan accordingly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the guidebooks available for the region are Backcountry Skiing Snoqualmie Pass and Mountain Adventure. Both guides are written by Matt Schonwald, the founder and owner of BC Adventure Guides. These guides feature GPS coordinates and avalanche information. Schonwald, a certified American Avalanche Association instructor, also covers terrain hazards. For the most safety-conscious skiers, a Snoqualmie Pass guidebook is a must.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;d like to experience the local culture in an interesting way, don&#8217;t miss the Firehouse. This restored historical building now houses the Forest Service Visitor Center and is also home to the evo Snoqualmie Pass Satellite Store and Laconia Market. The building was originally built in the 1920s, and served as a Department of Transportation storage facility until 2011.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Skiing in the region is a winter delight in Washington. There are numerous trails and events to choose from, including the popular Winter Carnival. If you want to ski in winter, make sure to take advantage of the Nordic Center, which features 18 kilometers of groomed trails for skiers, snowboarders, and snowshoes. The Nordic Center even has a warming yurt and a retail center right at the trailhead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In November of 1990, a windstorm swept across the pass, causing the old bridge&#8217;s center pontoons to sink. In the following years, it was rebuilt and was open to traffic once again. The new bridges could accommodate 100-year avalanches and reduce construction impacts to the community. This project is now complete. The resulting new bridge is the largest in the U.S. and has been the focal point for many major events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also hike around the lake. A five-mile-long trail offers surprises, including a railroad tunnel and modern tracks. It also features a playground and caterpillars. Hiking trails are plentiful in Snoqualmie Pass. A short, easy hike along Gold Creek Pond leads to Lake Easton, while Mount Margaret offers more elevation but offers spectacular views.
