For an up-close and personal look at local culture, visit the John &amp; Mable Ringling Museum of Art, which is located on Bay Shore Road. Named after the co-founder of the world-famous Ringling Bros. and Barnum &amp; Bailey Circus, this museum features original art. Visitors can see Greek and Roman works of art and admire the classical architecture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you enjoy nature, there are many parks in the area. Near Sarasota, Oscar Scherer State Park is a great place to explore. This park offers over fifteen miles of hiking trails, and you can even spot bald eagles during the winter months. You can also enjoy water sports, like kayaking or canoeing. If you like to go on a camping trip, you can also reserve a camping site. Located on a river, this park is a great way to enjoy nature and get a great workout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lido Key has many great beaches to choose from, but South Lido Park is particularly popular. This waterfront park is located on Benjamin Franklin Drive, where Otto Schmidt Zoldan once applied for a homestead. The 1904 homestead claim included most of South Lido Park. Although originally known as Sarasota Key, this island was renamed after the Ringling Isles development. The park has hiking trails, picnic areas, and swimming opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also visit the Asolo Reperatory Theatre on the Ringling Museum grounds. Located near the Ringling Museum, the theatre company puts on regular cast performances and showcases the work of FSU conservatory students. There are plenty of things to do in Sarasota, and it is easy to find ideas based on your interests. You may even have an idea on your next visit to Sarasota.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have an appreciation for exotic plants, Sarasota has several botanical gardens. The Marie Selby Botanical Garden is a great place to visit if you&#8217;re a plant lover. The lush, seven-acre property was once owned by Marie and William Selby. There&#8217;s an extensive orchid collection here, as well as many other types of plants. The garden features 20 different habitats and 20,000 plants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re interested in wildlife, a nature trail in Sarasota is a must-see. Located on Ken Thompson Parkway near downtown Sarasota, the Mote Marine Laboratory &amp; Aquarium is a great place to spend a few hours learning about local wildlife. It features touch pools, hands-on exhibits, and floor-to-ceiling water tanks. It is a great place for jogging or a morning stroll. If you want to get close to an ocean, you can take a boat tour of the lake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For wildlife lovers, the Big Cat Habitat and Gulf Coast Sanctuary are two popular destinations. Both of these organizations have large, outdoor habitats where you can watch exotic birds and animals. They even have a petting zoo. Guests can get up close and personal with sloths and wallabies.
