Ziplines and jet boats are available for visitors. Located east of downtown, Talkeetna Lakes Park is a scenic 3.5-mile walking trail with docks for canoes. It is also a good place to spend a day in the wilderness. Open in the summer and on weekends during the winter, the museum is located in the old Territory of Alaska Talkeetna School, which opened in 1936. Besides the museum, the town is known as a staging area for the ascents of Denali and Mount Foraker. You can also pick up souvenirs here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to see the northern lights, Talkeetna is a good place to do so. Because it&#8217;s so close to Denali, it&#8217;s free of city light pollution. There are even tours that land on the glacier if you&#8217;re lucky. Those looking for a truly unique experience should consider these options. For a family outing, the town of Talkeetna offers many activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nagley&#8217;s General Store is one of the oldest buildings in town. It has been open since the turn of the 20th century, and offers a great collection of local crafts and art. It&#8217;s one of the oldest buildings in the town and is a great place to buy beautiful prints of the aurora borealis. There&#8217;s also a local artist, Dora Redman, who offers classes for capturing the beauty of the aurora borealis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are also several restaurants to eat and enjoy. The Fairview Inn has been a favorite of locals for nearly a century. The town holds various festivals and events throughout the year. Moose on Parade begins the summer season, followed by the Fourth of July parade, and the auctioning off of the moose. Another festival held in town is Winterfest. Winterfest is an annual celebration during the coldest month of the year.
