As a growing railroad town, Vancouver grew rapidly. The North Bank railroad came through Vancouver in 1913 and Northern Pacific built a $3 million double-track steel drawbridge over the Columbia River. Multnomah and Clark counties issued bonds totaling $1,250,000 and $50000 for the construction of the Pacific Highway bridge. Both counties eventually paid off their debts and Vancouver became a major city. Despite its relatively small size, Vancouver still continues to experience significant growth.

There are several attractions in and around Vancouver. One of the most popular attractions in the area is Silver Star Mountain, located to the east of the city. The west side is home to Vancouver Lake Regional Park. The Waterfront Renaissance Trail is another popular walking and biking path with stunning views of the water and mountains. A list of the top attractions in Vancouver is available from Vancouver tourism. Keep in mind, however, that some businesses will be closed due to global health and safety concerns.

Visiting Fort Vancouver, a city that was once a major center of fur trade in the Pacific Northwest, is one of the top things to do in the city. The city was incorporated in 1857 and experienced steady growth for the rest of the century. During the First World War, the city’s Pearson Field was home to the largest spruce lumber mill in the world. And during World War II, the city became home to Kaiser Shipyard, an important shipbuilding center. But today, Vancouver’s industrial base has shifted to service industry and high-tech jobs.

The city of Vancouver is the county seat of Clark County. It sits on the banks of the Columbia River and is unsurpassed for scenic beauty in this part of the state. It is home to Mount St. Helens and Mount Hood, two peaks that are visible from the city. The city has many shade-laden streets and a waterfront park connected to Fort Vancouver National Historic Site. A few buildings from the Vancouver Barracks were assembled in the city’s former military post.

The city’s first theater was a building owned by a local capitalist, F. M. Black. It was located near 7th and Washington streets, across from City Hall. The cost was reportedly more than $15,000 and it was soon transformed into a movie house. The theater also served as the company’s headquarters. It purchased six acres of land at $1,200 an acre. The company hired a number of skilled mechanics to keep up with demand.

During the late 1800s, Governor Lister traveled along the Pacific Highway. He was accompanied by the Pacific Highway Commission, which voted unanimously in favor of the road, and the Clark County Mural Society, the organization that is responsible for making the city’s murals. The commission had a diverse representation. The state highway commission included C. W. Clausen, W. J. Roberts, and L. H. Darwin.
