This 1720 mansion is managed by the Daughters of the American Revolution. It is open to the public during Sunday hours from June through October. Tours are also available at the stately home of Thomas Nelson Jr., which has beautiful architecture. The American Revolution Center tells the story of the American Revolution and how it ended in the victory over the British.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the siege of Yorktown, the Union Army captured the town. Afterwards, it was used as a base by the Union Army of the Potomac, led by General George B. McClellan. The Union army then launched an attack on Richmond from Yorktown. The siege lasted for about eighteen days. The siege ended in victory for the Union, and Yorktown remained in Union hands for the rest of the war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While in Yorktown, be sure to visit a brewery. Larry&#8217;s Hard Lemonade is the city&#8217;s first craft beer, and is served on the town&#8217;s waterfront. The brewery serves a rotating selection of microbrews and features a pub style menu and views of the York River. In addition to the brewery, the city is home to two of the state&#8217;s signature craft beers &#8211; The Old Brew and the New York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Throughout Yorktown, Virginia, there are many things to do. From the American Revolution Museum to the Colonial National Historic Park, there are many places to see. The town&#8217;s waterfront is a popular spot for kayaking and paddle boarding. You can also check out the art galleries, specialty stores, and a beautiful bridge. You&#8217;ll never be bored exploring Yorktown&#8217;s historic sites. There&#8217;s something for everyone in Yorktown!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For something more fun and unique, take a stroll on Water Street. While many of the local shops are centered around quaint restaurants and cafes, there&#8217;s a random little cave on Water Street. Legend has it that British General Cornwallis hid in the cave during the Battle of Yorktown. While historians are not certain, they think the cave was used in early colonial times as a potato storage facility. The Confederate Army used it for storage of ammunition during the Civil War. While the cave itself isn&#8217;t open to the public, you can still drive by and peek inside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Yorktown County Historical Center is one of the many museums located in the town. The collection here contains over 90,000 artifacts, and spans almost 300 years of history. Exhibits highlight the daily lives of the people and businesses who lived in Yorktown during this time.
