The mob later made a massive bonfire on Fort Hill, and the citizens of Winthrop may have looked on with alarm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the town&#8217;s historic sites, Winthrop is also home to two historically significant forts. Fort Heath and Fort Banks were both built in the 1800s. The former, built in 1898, was a United States Coast Artillery fort, while the latter is now a condominium complex.
