If you are looking for a place to visit in Maine, consider visiting the town of Yarmouth. This town is located in Cumberland County, about twelve miles north of Portland. Originally settled as North Yarmouth, the town was part of Massachusetts for two hundred and thirteen years. Today, you can visit the area’s historic sites and enjoy the local cuisine. But first, you must know a little bit about this coastal community.

The town of Yarmouth Maine is an attractive mid-size coastal city situated on Casco Bay in Southern Maine. The most comfortable months to visit Yarmouth are July, June, and August. The coldest months to visit are January and February. During the summer, tourists can enjoy the warm, sandy beaches and the abundant activities available in the town. If you’re planning a visit to Yarmouth, be sure to visit the Maine Visitor’s Center, which is located near RT 1.

When in town, make sure to try the many dining options. While visiting the area, be sure to try the local cuisine – seafood is the specialty of this area. If you’re on a budget, consider a quick lunch at Clayton’s on Route 1. Then, for a more upscale dining experience, check out The Purple House, which is owned by a James Beard nominee. You can also grab a sandwich at Bresca and the Honeybee, which is located on the Outlet Beach in New Gloucester.

For a family-friendly trip, don’t miss the Clam Festival. This annual event draws about 120,000 visitors and includes carnival rides, clam-shucking competition, and a five-mile bike race. The town also has churches and well-maintained walking trails. And while you’re visiting, don’t forget to visit their clam-sucking contest and the Christmas tree farm. You’ll have plenty of time to explore this beautiful city.

There are plenty of outdoor activities in Yarmouth, Maine, to keep you busy and occupied during your vacation. Enjoy the outdoors by walking along the waterfront. You’ll also find many parks and open spaces in the area. The 22 acre Royal River Park, for example, offers a mile-long walkway, waterfalls, and scenic vistas along the Royal River. It’s the perfect place to catch the sun or a concert. In summer, the Yarmouth Summer Arts Series sponsors free live performances and exhibitions in the park.

A pedestrian bridge overlooking the Royal River Park is a unique sight in the city. Built on the abutments of the trolley line that ran between Freeport and Portland between 1906 and 1933, this bridge now serves as a popular walking destination. The only bus service in Yarmouth is the BREEZ route of the Greater Portland Metro. The BREEZ has eleven southbound services and twelve northbound services to Portland, and an abbreviated Saturday schedule. First service to Portland arrives at 6.20 am and last service leaves at 6 pm.

The town’s industrial past is shaped by a number of large manufacturing operations. The Wyman Power Station, a steam turbine plant that’s part of Central Maine Power, opened in 1957 and was named after the company’s president, William F. Wyman, in Yarmouth. With four steam turbine units, the facility has a chimney that rises 421 feet. While the station has largely been used on an on-call basis for many years, it still generates $2 million annually and remains a major tax payer.
