Fortunately, there are plenty of short trails that will let you enjoy the park&#8217;s scenery without requiring a full day of hiking. For example, the Vernal Fall trail offers a shorter hike for valley visitors, and several trails in the high country along Route 120 are suitable for brief excursions to view granite domes and alpine lakes. You can also extend a short hike to the sequoia groves. For the more physically fit, there are backcountry trails and the Half Dome trail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The park is located in the Sierra Nevada and is surrounded by the Sierra National Forest and the Stanislaus National Forest. The park is administered by the National Park Service, and it spans 759 square miles, encompassing four counties. It is internationally recognized for its granite cliffs, giant sequoia groves, and glaciers. The park is also home to a variety of plant and animal species.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Located on the eastern edge of the Sierra Nevada, Yosemite was once home to the Paiute and Sierra Miwok people. After the 1906 earthquake, San Francisco sought hydroelectric power and drinking water sources, and a bitter political battle ensued. In 1895, the United States Army chased 200 Ahwahneechees out of the park, and more people began traveling to the region. This led to the construction of the O&#8217;Shaughnessy Dam, which allowed the Tuolumne River to flood the valley. The park became a national park in 1916.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re planning to visit Yosemite, make sure to include some time in the park to see the majestic trees and other scenic spots. The park is open all year, but cell phone and GPS coverage is minimal. The park provides paper maps at all entrances, as well as free Wi-Fi for visitors and park guests. Depending on the time of year, you can take a tour of the park or sign up for photography and art classes. There are even tours you can take in the park, and there&#8217;s even free Wi-Fi at cafes and library branches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In case of an emergency, the park&#8217;s emergency dispatch is dedicated to responding to emergencies. Cell phones may route you to a call center in the same area code, which may not be suitable for emergencies. If this is the case, however, you can still make use of the emergency number and call 911 for help.
