In fact the city lies in the very area that the old city of Paris also used to be located. During its history the city has been through every bloody revolution and civil war that France has experienced. It is from this long line of battles that the city has gained its reputation as a city which has fallen on many heads and has seen everything from resistance movements to attacks by terrorists. For these reasons alone it is very fitting to take a look back on the history of Strasbourg and experience some of the best times and places to visit during your stay in the capital of France.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During my time there I wanted to experience a little bit of the traditional food that comes with the name. So instead of going out to one of the many trendy cafes in the city I instead went to one of the many traditional markets that the city has to offer during this festive season. There are endless variations of food that you can find here; you can get traditional french foods or you can go down the road and find yourself some spicy Indian food. The market is a great place to find just about anything including Christmas decorations, souvenirs to buy and the ever popular Strasbourg Christmas Market Stamps. There are endless options when it comes to holiday gifts. For example some of the people selling their items will even allow you to buy some for friends and family back home so you can give them something unique and something they have not received before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The most popular item to be found in the Strasbourg Christmas markets is the giant Christmas tree. And while some of the other stands have smaller trees on display, the giant tree is always set out in front of the huge Christmas stalls selling delicious traditional food items. You can spot lots of fruit and cheese, crackers and traditional Christmas cake among other things. Some of the stalls selling fruit will have whole sections of apples, pears and even some exotic varieties that you may not have seen elsewhere. It really is a wonderful experience to sit down and savour the sights as you watch the crowds of people enjoying themselves with a drink in one hand and their food in another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Strasbourg is one of the most important ports on the river cruise route. The port is especially important because it is the main departure point for much of Europe and is the main gateway to many cities in central and eastern Europe. So when you arrive in this delightful old city, take a trip to one of the many bars and restaurants that line the banks of the river. This is the best way to get your bearings as you will be able to interact with locals and find out more about the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Strasbourg holidays offers people the chance to enjoy many traditional activities during their stay here. Many visitors stop at the many Christmas markets set out by the main road. Here they can mingle with local people, shop for gifts and even buy some dinner or refreshments. There are also many popular street entertainers whose performances include fire displays, folk music and puppet shows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you like culture then you will love the fact that there are many places where you can go and enjoy a day or two looking at and getting a feel for German culture. Two good options are the University of Strasbourg and the Cathedral of Strasbourg which can both be easily reached by car and allow you to spend time seeing the impressive historic architecture and churches. Other popular attractions include the city&#8217;s famous cathedrals such as the magnificent Cathedral of Strasbourg, the famous Saint Nicholas Church and of course the famous Christmas market which is set out every day before Christmas and runs until the final day of the holiday.
