Turin, the largest city of Piedmont, located in north-central Italy, is best known for its elegant, regal architecture and delicious cuisine. The Alps rise steeply from the north of the city, towering above the streets. Stately old buildings and elegant, colorful bars line the boulevards and squares of downtown Turin, like Piazza Castello and Piazza San Carlo, among other places. Just beyond the city are the spectacular, soaring spires of the Mole Antonelliana and the historic castle of Scaligeria.

Turin boasts the second-most picturesque parks in the whole of Italy. Among the most famous ones are the Park di Napoletana; Park Piazza Navona; Piazza Navona and the Park of Renaissance Gardens. The Mole Antonelliana is also one of the most scenic spots in town, lined with palaces, ancient statues and exquisite gardens. It is a great place to take a day trip to, especially if you’re traveling with kids. In 2021, tourists brought more than two million plaster turtles from Madagascar to the Turin Museum of Modern Art. In this section, you will also find the most photographed model of all time, the Tiger Lady.

If you like shopping, then you will be quite pleased with the wide range of shopping malls in turin. Some of the most famous include the San Cassiano, Sarvana and the Palazzo Reale. Most of these malls have separate entrance gates and are well lit, so that you can easily recognize your surroundings. This is a huge advantage when trying to decide on what kind of souvenir to bring back home with you. The Savoy, for instance, has an eclectic blend of stores selling everything from sunglasses to books to jewellery.

To go along with the impressive array of shops, there’s also the very impressive Piazza Castello, or the Royal Castle, as it is known locally. Built in 1530 by the Roman Duke of Savoy, the castle is open to the public on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. There is no admission fee and you can tour the entire grounds at your leisure. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, admission is free. The superga, or grand hall, is where the “lavato” or general audience sits and hears speeches from the Mayor, prefects, curries and other speakers.

Touring the Royal Palace in Turin will let you witness one of Italy’s most famous museums -the Museo e Galleria Borghese. The museum was designed by renowned architect Enzo Gaudi and boasts one of the largest collections of Renaissance and medieval art in the world. Additionally, the museum houses the largest collection of paintings in Europe. In order to gain access to the museum, you must take a bus that leaves from the Turin central ring road. You can also walk to the palace by taking the following route: from the second story of the gothic-style Grand Bassano apartment complex, get off at Fiumento and take a left turn to reach the Palazzo Reale.

Another great way to explore the rich culture and history of Turin and its surrounding areas is to visit the Royal Armoury. Constructed in 1400s by the Spanish navy, the armoury is situated on the Sant’ Antonino mountain and is now open to visitors. Although the railway line used to link the palazzo with the city, the route has since been renovated and makes for a more convenient way to travel between the two locations. Once you have reached the Royal Armoury, you will be able to take in the extensive collection of weaponry, armour and memorabilia, as well as a small town nearby called San Gimignano. The Royal Armoury houses many rare articles of clothing, tapestries, ceramics and other items that display the prestige of the Italian Royalty.
