This coastal town offers a long sandy shore and scenic views of the ocean. You can see puffins at Haystack Rock, a seasonal home. Visit Ecola State Park for sweeping views of the coastline. Arcadia Beach is perfect for kids with tide pools, and you can visit Hug Point for sea caves. Downtown is lined with boutiques and upscale restaurants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The City of Cannon Beach was incorporated as a municipal government under state law in 1957. The council is made up of an elected mayor and four at-large councilors. The Council meets regularly to make important policy decisions and accept recommendations from staff. The City Manager directs the daily operations of the city. The town&#8217;s culture and attractions are well-known. You can easily spend the day walking the beaches and hiking to see the Haystack Rock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are also a number of hiking trails in and around Cannon Beach. The most popular ones are in the area around the town center, and are within a half-hour drive of downtown. A picnic lunch is essential &#8211; we recommend grabbing some local grub before heading out onto the trail. If you&#8217;re looking for a longer hike, try the 6-mile Tillamook Head trail south of Seaside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have the time, hike up Crescent Beach. It&#8217;s 2.5 miles round-trip and best suited for experienced hikers. This trail will take you to Ecola Point, a breathtaking rocky outcrop, and an unspoiled beach. It&#8217;s a great way to get a feel for the city&#8217;s culture and history. If you&#8217;re in Cannon, make sure you pack some picnic grub and picnic lunch before you go hiking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A hike at Cape Falcon is one of the most scenic on the Oregon coast. This is a short, easy-to-access trail in Oswald West State Park. It&#8217;s a 2-mile one-way hike through the coastal forest of Sitka spruce and offers spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean. This hiking trail is popular with tourists and locals alike, so it&#8217;s worth taking the time to see it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re looking for a short hike, consider the Elk Flats trail. This trail is one of the most scenic hikes in Cannon Beach and on the Oregon coast. The Devil&#8217;s Cauldron is a swirling pool of ocean foam, and the views are stunning. The trail is a short, easy hike with spectacular views of the ocean. You can even bring a picnic to enjoy the local food in the town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The town&#8217;s name didn&#8217;t always have a name. It used to be known as Elk Creek, and Clark used the word Ecola in his name. But later, this was changed to Elk Creek. Then, in 1846, a US Navy schooner named the town Shark washed ashore on the shore, and a new name was given to it.
