He later became a missionary and teacher to the Indians, and his descendants continue to make the island a popular tourist destination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Wampanoag people have inhabited the area for thousands of years, and the history of the island dates back thousands of years. The present-day island&#8217;s landscape is dotted with ruins of ancient civilizations. Visitors can still view the remains of the natives who lived on the island 2,000 years ago. It is also home to the world&#8217;s largest colony of birds, which nest in the island&#8217;s cliffs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Visitors to the island can learn about the island&#8217;s history. The Wampanoag, who first lived on the Island, were the original inhabitants of the island. Then, the area was populated by immigrants from England, the Cape Verde Islands, and other countries. In the 19th century, the natives built a small village on the Island and cultivated their crops and gardens. Today, the town boasts an abundant food supply, including local seafood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The island is 20 miles long and 2-10 miles wide. Unlike other tourist destinations, the arts and culture scene is alive and flourishing on Martha&#8217;s Vineyard. The weather is ideal from mid-June to Labor Day, but the island does get a bit of snow in winter. Even though it rarely snows, the wind can blow fiercely in the winter. In addition to the beach and the historic sites, the Island also has the Flying Horses Carousel, which was built in 1876 in Coney Island, N.Y., and brought to the island by the Martha&#8217;s Vineyard Preservation Trust in 1986.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The museum is a great place to see the sights and sounds of the island. The museum was founded in 1922 and has been operating for over a century. Since then, it has gathered a lot of historical artifacts and exhibits, and inspires people to explore its heritage. The museum also owns three lighthouses on the island, and is the steward of the last of these landmarks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the early 19th century, religious revival meetings were held in tents along Trinity Park. In the 1920s, the hospital opened in Oak Bluffs.
