The city is home to several military bases, including the El Paso Naval Air Station and the Los Alamogordo Army Depot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are many reasons to visit Alamogordo. The town&#8217;s unique architecture and location are worth a visit. Besides the Mescalero Indian Reservation, it also hosts the headquarters of the Lincoln National Forest. The International Space Hall of Fame honors pioneers of space exploration and is located nearby. The City is also home to a branch of New Mexico State University. In 1912, the city&#8217;s population was about 4000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Outside of monsoonal storms, summer temperatures are hot. On average, 94.8 days are over 90 degF. Two days in June saw over 110 degF. The winter months are relatively mild and dry. The average low in January is 32 degrees F (0.7 degrees C). During the winter season, a cold front sweeps through the city, but temperatures rarely drop below zero. Only seven mornings have fallen below 0 degF, though the city has experienced several severe cold waves. The highest recorded low temperature in January 1962 was -14 degrees Fahrenheit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Summer temperatures are warm. On average, 94.8 days exceed 90 degF. There are two record highs, both at 110 degF, on June 22, 1981 and July 8, 1951. In winter, the average low is 32 degrees Fahrenheit, but the temperatures rarely drop below that. The highest recorded low temperature is -12 degrees Fahrenheit on January 11, 1962. Its snowfall is less than a foot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The town has a quirky infamy among movie enthusiasts. It is the site of a controversial video game test that was buried in the town. In addition, the town was featured in the 2005 documentary 14 Days in America. The film, &#8220;The Big Leaky,&#8221; was shot in Alamogordo. The film starred Michael Jackson. It was the first movie to be filmed in the US.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alamogordo is known for its museums. The New Mexico Museum of Space History showcases the space era from the 1970s to the present day. Its exhibits and artifacts include the space shuttle and other spacecraft. Visitors can also attend a summer camp in the museum. If you&#8217;re looking for a fun day out, try a visit to the New Horizons Dome Theater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The city of Alamogordo is the county seat of Otero County. It is located in the Tularosa Basin, a high desert region. The town&#8217;s history is rich in history. It is home to at least 11,000 people. The city was first settled in 1898 as a railroad-related community.
