A public ferry connects Angel Island to Tiburon. During summer, the Tiburon-Angel Islands Ferry runs every day. In the off-season, there are fewer services. The trip is only about twenty minutes long. There’s no parking on the island, and the Ferry does not take California State Park Annual Day Use Passes. Bicycles are allowed on the island’s main roads. Personal Segway scooters and roller skates are prohibited due to the terrain.

There are several attractions on Angel Island and Tiburon. Both of these peninsulas have rich history. A few thousand years ago, the island was connected to the mainland. It was a fishing and hunting site for Native Americans. Two thousand years later, a Coast Miwok settlement was found on Ring Mountain. The U.S. Immigration Station operated from 1814 to 1940 on the island, processing hundreds of thousands of immigrants from China and other countries. The station was also used for holding Japanese and German POWs during the World War II. The military history is extensive, with nearly 100 years of continuous service.

Despite the presence of a busy railway, Angel Island and Tiburon are sleepy yacht club suburbs. A main shopping street is lined with boutiques, art galleries, and dockside restaurants. The shops are housed in renovated boathouses. The only thing to do on the island is walk along the waterfront, pop in a few shops, and spend $60 on drinks. The best places to eat are at the waterfront.
