The Augusta Museum of History showcases exhibitions on golf, golfing and the soul singer James Brown. The Riverwalk stretches along the Savannah River and the city&#8217;s downtown area. The Morris Museum of Art specializes in the art of the American South. The Boyhood Home of President Woodrow Wilson depicts the early years of the 28th president. The 1845 Augusta Canal spans trails and is the perfect place to enjoy the scenery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re interested in hiking and mountain biking, there are numerous trails throughout the city. If you&#8217;re a serious rider, you can follow the paved trails along the Savannah River. The trailheads are easily accessible and feature views of historic sites and wetlands. For more challenging terrain, try a loop through the town of Evans. For the most scenic and gratifying views, hikers should head for the high ridge above the Savannah River.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Savannah River flows through the city of Augusta, Georgia. The city lies on the fall line &#8211; a section of the river where small falls are created. The city marks the end of the navigable portion of the river and the entrance to the Georgia Piedmont region. You can also hike through the historic sites of downtown Augusta. The River Region is a hotspot for music and food. The Riverfront is an excellent choice for a family day out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another great hiking trail is the Daisy Pass Trail. This road climbs through old mining areas and a small hillside before descending to a saddle with spectacular views of Augusta. The saddle is not easy to spot, so don&#8217;t get lost in the scenery. The Augusta trail is on the left side of the mountain above a scree patch. This route provides stunning views. A short, but challenging descent will bring you to the summit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trains came into the city via the river in the late 1700s, and most trains went to the Union Station at Barrett Square. The Southern Railway depot was located at Fifth and Reynolds Street. Now, the town&#8217;s two major railroads have their own yards, including the Nixon Yard and the Augusta Yard. While both companies have their own tracks, they all serve the city. In addition to the historic River, Augusta is also home to the National Guard and the U.S. Army.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Augusta Civic Center is a modern city with state-of-the-art working quarters for radio and television stations. The Civic Center offers a free restaurant where visitors can sample artisan cheeses, artisan breads and craft beers. The historic district is also a great place for family reunions. Many children will enjoy visiting the city&#8217;s many historic sites and parks.
