The Cheyenne language&#8217;s word for Ojibwe is Sahea&#8217;eo&#8217;o. The words are similar in sound and are believed to be related.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the annual Arrow Renewal and Sun Dance ceremonies, the Cheyenne also perform special ceremonies. These events symbolize their survival and their hope for the future. Visitors are invited to these special events only by invitation and are not considered public or commercial. They are organized into bands and military societies. The Cheyenne are divided into 10 major bands, and each of them is governed by a council of 44 chiefs. In the traditional Cheyenne society, there were seven military societies, the most powerful of which was the Dog Soldiers. Various other groups included a society for medicine and dance. Most of these societies were open to both male and female members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Cheyenne were originally found in the western Great Lakes area, where they hunted buffalo and deer. The people were divided into 10 bands, and they were organized into communities. In the early 1600s, they had contacts with British and French fur traders. The Cheyenne later settled in Minnesota and North Dakota, where they lived in earthen dwellings and farmed land.
