After the battle, Thomas was promoted to brigadier general and appointed the commander of Rosecrans&#8217; Army of the Cumberland. His help in this battle would ultimately lead to the capture of Chattanooga.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lower Loop of Hogskin Branch trail begins with a gentle rise before descending to a bluff at the base of the mountain. The trail will continue to lead to beautiful overlooks of the surrounding area. If you are interested in hiking, the Hogskin Loop trail is the best choice. Despite being a multi-use trail, this route will not get you lost in the forest.
