The major pass in the state is located in Hart&#8217;s Location and roughly half of the notch lies within the park&#8217;s boundaries. It is an area that is perfect for hiking, biking, and skiing, and is a must-see destination for those interested in New England&#8217;s White Mountains. But before you visit, it is worth knowing a few things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The area&#8217;s natural beauty, rich history, and recreational opportunities make this a popular destination for outdoor lovers. The state park is named after the Crawford family, who settled in the late 1700s and cut trails to guide visitors up the mountain. In 1826, the Crawford family opened the Willey House, where Samuel Willey, Jr., lived and ran a small inn. A tragic storm destroyed the inn in 1826, but it remained in operation until its demolition in 1898.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The state&#8217;s parks and forests are perfect for hiking and biking. The state park is dog-friendly, and offers leashed dog policies. If you&#8217;re a pet owner, you&#8217;ll want to bring a backpack to carry your pet around on your trip. The park also offers a Carry-In\/Carry-Out Program, which encourages guests to recycle, and the Crawford House Artist&#8217;s Studio is the place to take your dog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are several scenic trails to enjoy in Crawford Notch, including the Elephant Head trail. From the AMC Highland Center, you can hike up to the summit of Mount Field and Mount Willey. The trip is easy and great for families. It is a steep, rugged trail, but only about a third of a mile, so you can take the whole family. And if you want a change of pace, you can take the A-Z Trail to Mount Tom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The park also offers many waterfalls. At Arethusa Falls, you&#8217;ll be awestruck by the 200-foot drop. The trail starts three miles south of Crawford Notch and has a moderate 2 mile hike. It includes a 900-foot climb and a 100-foot descent. The hike will take you about an hour, depending on the trail you choose. You can also hike the Upper Ammonoosauc Falls, which is between Twin Mountain and Fabyans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mount Willard offers breathtaking views of the town and surrounding White Mountains. The 3.2-mile trail has a 900-foot elevation gain and is suitable for families. To start the hike, cross the railroad tracks. The yellow blazes on the trail will point you in the right direction. Once you reach the Centennial Pool, you can continue climbing the mountain. After the summit, you&#8217;ll return to the depot.
