It is the largest of the U.S. National Historic Landmark districts and includes more resources than any other. Its rich history and beautiful natural settings make it a perfect spot for a vacation or getaway. The town&#8217;s diverse cultural and historical offerings make it a great place to visit for a weekend or an extended stay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Butte-Anaconda Historic District is located in the towns of Anaconda and Walkerville. It is the only U.S. National Historic Landmark district with more resources than any other. It is a rich heritage with a long history of copper production. The mining industry is still active, and the region was an important part of the American labor movement. The town was also home to the 1917 Speculator Mine disaster, which was the largest hard rock mine disaster in history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although the area has high levels of environmental hazards, butte and Anaconda are popular destinations for recreational activities. The town of Anaconda is a mile high valley located in Deer Lodge National Forest and offers an unparalleled recreation opportunity. The city was originally a copper mining town that sprang up when the giant Anaconda Copper Mining Company of Butte needed a smelter to process ore for its copper mining operations. The company finally shut down its operations in 1980, but the landmark &#8211; called &#8220;The Stack,&#8221; remains a state park and important landmark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Travel between Butte and Anaconda is easy with the help of the Internet. The Butte-Anaconda Historic District is a unique opportunity to see the region from a different perspective. The district is composed of many historical buildings and structures, allowing visitors to view the architecture associated with the western mining economy. The Wah Chung Tai building and Mai Wah Noodle Parlor are two examples of historic buildings that have been restored. They now house a museum that interprets the Asian experience in the area. The Pekin Noodle Parlor is still operating in its original building on South Main Street. It is one of the oldest Chinese restaurants in the U.S.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Butte and Anaconda was founded in 1891. It was incorporated in 1892 as a common carrier. Its railway operated 24 hours a day and employed more than 100 people. Its name was renamed after the first mine in Butte, which is still in operation today. In the nineteenth century, the Butte and Anaconda became the capital of the Butte and Northern California.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Butte and Anaconda and Pacific Railway was chartered as a common carrier in 1891. It carried passengers and general freight. In 1967, the railroad began electrification, but the government didn&#8217;t allow the railway to stop operating because it was cheaper to run diesel-electric locomotives.
