This battle was the culmination of a month-long cat-and-mouse game in the mountains of northern Georgia. The ultimate prize for winning this battle was a portal to the Deep South. This was the city of Chattanooga, Tennessee, so the war would continue in that area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The creek&#8217;s name, Chickamauga, means &#8220;River of Death.&#8221; It is the location of the Battle of Chickamauga, which is also the site of the first battle in the war. Its name, meaning &#8220;River of Death,&#8221; reflects the muddy terrain of the battlefield.
