The first three high schools opened in 1847, and the second was built in 1867. The second school, the Phillips Academy, had 320 students in 1887. In 1855, the town hall was rebuilt, but did not serve as the courthouse until 1893. In the same year, the county records building was built on Front Street. Its town hall was built in the early 1800s and still serves as a community center. Even today, the town hall is frequently used for public events, and it is frequently rented out as an open forum throughout the year. In 1743, the Lady Justice statue was installed on the cupola. In 1744, President Washington visited Exeter and visited the town&#8217;s Folsom Tavern.
