The town&#8217;s name was given to it by the General Court of Massachusetts as a Royal Grant in recognition of Colonel Frye&#8217;s service in the French and Indian Wars. The original grant in 1762 included six square miles of land that was chosen by the Colonel. The town is also home to some consignment shops, a pizza restaurant, and the Oxford Inn, a destination inn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides the Fryeburg Academy, you can also visit local historical sites. In 1873, the area was home to Native American tribes, which were displaced in the town. In addition to the history of the town, visitors can find other interesting landmarks.
