In fact, Georgetown is one of the highest-ranking cities in the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Georgetown is an historic town that was founded during the Gold Rush in 1859. After the discovery of silver in 1864, Georgetown began to grow into a thriving center of commerce and residence. At one point, Georgetown boasted a population 10 times larger than it is today. It earned the title of &#8220;Silver Queen&#8221; of Colorado. Today, the town offers visitors many attractions, year-round, and regardless of the weather. This town was once a mining center, and offers visitors many ways to experience its past while enjoying a day at the lake or strolling the streets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the town of Georgetown has a population of slightly more than 1,000 residents, it overflows with visitors on the weekends. Whether you&#8217;re looking for a fun day out on the Colorado Front Range, a picturesque lunch spot, or a place to stay in a historic Victorian inn, Georgetown is the place to be. Georgetown boasts an antique gallery and a quaint old mining town. There are also plenty of places to eat and drink.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A trip to Georgetown is an adventure in itself. The town is situated in the Clear Creek valley, and is hemmed in by a mountain range. The Georgetown Loop Railroad travels through the town&#8217;s scenic valley and gains 640 feet of elevation in two miles. It also crosses four trestles and passes through steep, narrow terrain. Visitors can also take their dogs for rides on the train, which are dog-friendly and scenic. Despite the picturesque setting, Georgetown&#8217;s main attraction is its proximity to other popular destinations in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The town had approximately 3,000 residents in the 1870s. Its residents were mining success stories and built shops, churches, and an opera house. All these buildings speak volumes about the town&#8217;s history. They also attracted merchants to the area. In 1877, a railroad link was built between Georgetown and Denver. The railroad carried people from the mines to the city. In 1879, long-distance telephone lines were installed in Georgetown. Three years earlier, this had been an unheard-of thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a skier, Georgetown Colorado is perfectly located near some of the state&#8217;s best resorts. Just thirteen miles away from the town, Loveland Ski Area has been a favorite for locals for over 80 years. It offers 1,800 acres of ski terrain and an average of 422 inches of snow per season.
