The city&#8217;s largest annual celebration is the Indianapolis 500 Festival Parade, which attracts 300,000 spectators. Other notable annual events include the Indiana Black Expo, the Indiana State Fair, and the historic Irvington Halloween Festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To enjoy the natural beauty of Indiana, hikers can visit Versailles State Park, which is just a short drive from the city. The park&#8217;s three hiking trails include Fallen Timber Creek, limestone sinkholes, and Indiana native trees. Taking your dog on a hike will help you enjoy the outdoors while exploring the city. Located just 15 minutes from Downtown, Eagle Creek is home to 3,900 acres of forest. Hiking trails include the Green Trail, which features a 3.25-mile trail that passes through the Spring Pond Nature Preserve. You can connect the Green Trail with the Orange Trail and Blue Trail for a longer hike. The hikes are moderate in difficulty, but not difficult. To make the most of your time at Eagle Creek, make sure to sign up for an Indianapolis Hiking Club event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Monon Trail has been a hot spot for crime. In the past two months, multiple flashing incidents have taken place on the trail. Additionally, a homicide detective was called to a stretch of the White River near the Monon Trail earlier this year. Thankfully, the Indianapolis Metro Police Department keeps a website that shows trail activity. When you visit the trails, take a walk and enjoy the fresh air. You will be glad you did!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marott Park: This 84-acre park is near 73rd Street in Indianapolis. This park includes a path that leads down to Williams Creek, which is a tributary of the White River. Because the creeks in this park are shallow, even toddlers and young children can safely play in them. While it is a bit challenging to hike, the steep hills and winding paths make this a great place to spend an afternoon with your family. And it is free to visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The White River Trail: This 5.3-mile path follows the White River and will link downtown and the eastside. It will connect with the Monon Trail and the Indianapolis Cultural Trail. It starts from Riverside Regional Park and winds down the White River. You can also explore Eagle Creek Park, which will connect neighborhoods and commercial areas. The trail is part of a larger project that involves the development of a greenway along the river.
