Chama is a village in Rio Arriba County, New Mexico. As of the 2010 census, the population of Chama was 1,022. The village is located in the Rocky Mountains, approximately 7 miles from the Colorado-New Mexican border. The community has many attractions for visitors to enjoy, including hiking, skiing, fishing, and other outdoor activities. You can even spend the night at a hotel or in a bed and breakfast in Chama.

The town’s wildlife is another draw for visitors. The Edward Sargent Wildlife Management Area, which extends into Colorado, is popular with hunters. In addition to a wildlife preserve, the area also features horseback riding, hiking, and scenic views. And, if you are not a hunter, you can just enjoy the scenery for free. You’ll also find plenty of outdoor activities in the town, including rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking, and rafting.

Chama has a unique vibe and is an excellent base camp for an active weekend getaway.
