This city offers plenty of places to stay and eat, including the quaint Big Moose Pub, which is open seven days a week from 10 am to 4 pm. If you’re looking for upscale shopping, you might want to consider the Manchester Designer Outlets, which features over forty designer outlet boutiques from iconic brands. You can also dine at Middlebury Sweets, which features Vermont’s largest selection of confectionaries and sweet treats.

For outdoor sports, Middlebury is also known for its many parks and sculptures. The surrounding countryside makes for a breathtaking backdrop for these installations. The Sweetest Half Maple Run is one of the most beautiful half marathons in the state, and the Vermont Sun will bring another half marathon to Branbury State Park in May. For cyclists, there are plenty of opportunities to challenge yourself to an 88-mile trail run in Moosalamoo National Recreation Area and a 104-mile bike ride, called the Gran Fondo.

When you’re in town, take time to explore the town’s rich history. The Taconic Mountains Ramble State Park is about 25 miles north of the town. In the evening, head to the Fire and Ice, where you can dine on delicious cuisine. Open for nearly four decades, the fire and ice restaurant is one of the most popular places to eat in the town. Dine in the cozy dining room or on the outdoor patio, but make sure to make reservations in advance. While visiting Middlebury, be sure to try their famous Vermont Mud Pie.

For a tasty breakfast, try the Otter Creek Bakery on college street. It’s open seven days a week, from 7 am to 2:30 pm Monday through Wednesday and 7 am to 4:30 pm Thursday through Saturday. If you’re planning to visit Middlebury Falls, you can also head over to Otter Creek Bakery for croissants and coffee drinks. The bakery is located near Middlebury Falls, so you can take advantage of its scenic view while enjoying a tasty meal with your friends.

If you’re looking for an art museum, the Bennington Museum is a great place to start. It holds a vast treasury of cultural artifacts from all over Vermont. You can also see the largest collection of Grandma Moses paintings in the world. The legendary artist began painting at age 78, and her works have received critical acclaim across the nation. The museum also hosts an eclectic mix of special exhibitions, including a textile gallery with the oldest American flag.

Chester Arthur State Historic Site was home to the 21st president of the United States. It will close its interior exhibits in 2022, but the grounds will remain open. Located in his hometown, President Calvin Coolidge State Historic Site is where the poet was born and spent his childhood. The town of Middlebury has numerous attractions to offer history buffs.
