May 9, 2022 | More: Lexington MA| Things to Do

If you’re looking for a weekend getaway in the Massachusetts state of Massachusetts, consider a trip to Lexington, MA. Located northwest of Boston, Lexington is known for its historic Lexington Common, also known as the Battle Green, where the first shots of the American Revolutionary War were fired. Minuteman Statue and the Revolutionary Monument stand on the Battle Green, and the Hancock-Clarke House documents the town’s revolution history and is the site of numerous reenactments.

You can visit the Old Burying Ground, which is home to colonial minutemen and contains gravestones of Revolutionary and Civil War soldiers. You can access this cemetery off Massachusetts Avenue, just west of the Battle Green. You’ll also want to take a walk down Harrington Road to see the gravestones and a historic church. The monument is located near the Lexington Railroad Bridge. And you can walk to other historic sites in the city via the Historic District.

If you’re interested in learning more about the city’s history and culture, Lexington is a great place to visit. The city was a vital part of the Cold War, hosting the USAF’s experimental SAGE Subsector in the 1990s. Because of its location in New England, the city experiences extremes in temperature from summer to winter. There are several museums and historical sites to visit while in Lexington, so you won’t want to miss a minute of the action.

The Revolutionary Monument is the nation’s oldest standing war memorial and is located on the Battle of Lexington colonials’ gravesite. Minute Man National Historical Park is located in Lexington and covers 900 acres and 3.6 square kilometers. In addition to the Revolutionary Monument, the town has a Scottish Rite Masonic Museum & Library, which showcases Freemasonry and American history. You can also take a bike ride on the Minuteman Bikeway.

The Lexington Depot is a must-see for railroad enthusiasts. The historic railroad depot is now the headquarters of the Lexington Historical Society. You can attend lectures in this elegant building and learn more about the history of Lexington. Once part of the Lexington and West Cambridge Railroad, the Lexington Depot is the center of the city’s history. The Old Burying Ground is another historic landmark to visit. The cemetery is home to early citizens as well as soldiers from the Civil War and Revolutionary War. There is also a British soldier buried here who died in Lexington’s Battle Green.

While you’re in Lexington, make sure to take in some history. The Battle of Lexington has a special place in Longfellow’s classic poem “Paul Revere’s Ride,” which chronicles the events of the historic event. While you’re here, don’t miss out on the Lincoln Minute Men reenactment at the National Lancers Museum. The National Lancers portray William Dawes and Paul Revere on horseback. This event features period music, a musket salute, and a reenactment of the historic battle.
