The town was established by English colonists in 1658, led by missionary Richard Bourne, who was from Sandwich. In 1660, the Wampanoag people were allowed to live in the English settlement, and a court of law was established, complete with trials according to English custom. This town has a thriving educational system and is home to 14,266 residents. In addition, Mashpee boasts a diverse population, with an annual growth rate of 1.5%.

The Indian community of Mashpee is a major source of the town’s cultural heritage. The Wampanoag people still retain a strong presence in the town, and a pow-wow is held each year to honor the Tribe. The Mashpee Wampanoag Museum is dedicated to the Wampanoag culture. In addition to the historic Wampanoag Museum, Mashpee also hosts an annual Herring Run, during which 300,000 herring migrate up the river to spawn in the town’s pond.

The town of Mashpee, Massachusetts is located in Barnstable County. Its population is expected to reach 15,060 by 2020. The town is the headquarters of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, one of two federally recognized Wampanoag groups. Several islands and a bay are also located in the town, including Monomoscoy Island and Popponesset Island.

The late John Paul Bourgeois, a former fireman in Mashpee, passed away peacefully in Falmouth Hospital. He was married to Mary Tuite and was the son of George and Evelyn Bourgeois. The two were married for 58 years. Their marriage was characterized by mutual support and a love of the sport. The couple is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
