15 Hiking Trails in Big Bear Lake and Lake Arrowhead

February 4, 2022 | More: Big Bear Lake and Lake Arrowhead| Hiking Trails

There are many great places to spend your vacation in the Big Bear and the Lake Arrowhead areas. The two cities are located at 6,752 feet above sea level and boast hundreds of animals. While you’re in the area, consider stopping by some of the lakes that are off the beaten path. You’ll be able to take in the scenery while enjoying the great outdoors. It’s easy to see why they’re such popular tourist destinations.

The Big Bear Mountain Trail System is an excellent hike in the area. The trails are on private property and can only be accessed by foot. You can’t bring motorized vehicles onto the trails. However, dogs must be on a leash and must be controlled by a command. Pet waste must be picked up and left in the proper place. It’s important to follow the trail rules so that wildlife and the surrounding environment are protected.

If you’re looking for a more challenging hike, Big Bear Canyon is a popular option. Located just off of Highway 18, this hiking trail winds its way through forest that offers views of the lake. The path’s steepness will test your stamina, but it’s well worth it. The trailhead is located near the Moonridge neighborhood, and it’s a great place to take a rest or enjoy a picnic.

For a truly scenic hike, the Skyline Trail passes through several top sights in Big Bear Lake Arrowhead. You’ll get a chance to see a sapphire tarn, towering Jeffrey pine forests, and a jaunt past Grand View Point. While many consider this trail to be one of the best hiking spots in the area, be aware that it also contains some challenging elements, such as cliffs and exposed edges. You’ll need to be sure-footed while climbing up and down the rocks.

If you’re a keen hiker, a short hike along the Big Bear Lake Trail is the best choice. The rocky ridges at the base of the mountain provide epic views of the lake and surrounding area. You can even make a snack break under the shade of a pine needle canopy at the end of the trail. After a long hike, you can camp in a remote high mountain campground.

The Towne Trail is a great hike for families. The 1.5-mile towne trail begins across the road from the Big Bear Discovery Center. It is a single-track trail that reaches a granite outcropping. The towne trail is also a good choice for beginners. The two lakes are located just 15 miles apart. This makes them a perfect getaway for families and couples. This is the perfect getaway for those who enjoy nature and mountain biking.
