15 Hiking Trails in Pendleton Oregon

June 3, 2022 | More: Hiking Trails| Pendleton Oregon

If you are planning a trip to Pendleton Oregon, you may want to visit the Children’s Museum of Eastern Oregan. This non-profit museum is located on Main Street in the heart of downtown Pendleton, Oregon. Visitors will love the educational exhibits, which open children’s minds to the real world and encourage them to develop their creative and critical thinking skills. The museum also offers classes and camps, and a permanent exhibit featuring children’s art.

The natural area in and around Pendleton is McKay Creek National Wildlife Refuge, which is a popular spot for hiking. Other hiking spots in the area include the Umatilla National Forest, North Fork Umatilla Wilderness Area, and Pendleton River Parkway. You can also visit the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, which is held annually on the first Friday of each month. You can also enjoy the town’s vibrant art scene by going to the Pendleton Museum.

Those interested in art and history can tour the Pendleton Woolen Mills, an iconic textile facility. The Pendleton Woolen Mills, founded by Thomas Kay in 1909, still make blankets for Native Americans. However, in addition to blankets, the company also produces sportswear and other fashionable items. Tours of the mills are offered on weekdays and include the chance to view spinning machines and automatic loom shuttles weaving geometric designs.

The Bishop family has continued to lead the company, and today the company has 7 facilities, manages over 75 retail stores, and publishes home direct mail and apparel catalogs. Clarence Bishop III and his son Charles Bishop acted as co-executive officers for many years. They were later elected to become president and vice president, respectively. The Bishops’ sons have also become involved in the company and now lead the organization.

The first distillery in Pendleton, Oregon since the end of prohibition, the Oregon Grain Growers Brand Distillery uses local products and has a tasting room. The owners are local farmers and control the growing of the ingredients. The distillery also mills its own grain, ensuring a consistent quality. OLCC distributes the distillery’s spirits throughout the state. The Great Pacific is a must-visit while in Pendleton Oregon.

There are several great dining options in Pendleton. In downtown Pendleton, you can dine at Hamley Steakhouse and Salon, which was originally opened in 1869. The restaurant features handcrafted woodwork, a 100-year-old authentic mahogany bar, and a massive longhorn steer. The restaurant is a popular spot for locals, who gather here for the best steaks and classic saloon fare. There are also plenty of televisions throughout the restaurant to keep your evenings entertaining.

In the northwest corner of the state, there is the Columbia Plateau, a lava plain that merges with the Blue Mountains and the Cascade Range. The Columbia Plateau contains long, narrow asymmetrical fault block ranges and wide basins. The Columbia Plateau includes the 9,773-foot Steens Mountain, a 30-mile-long fault-block range that rises abruptly from the desert floor. This area is home to a wide array of small volcanic ash and pumice that modifies surface runoff, vegetation, and land use.
